The human nervous system is responsible for constantly monitoring the internal and external environment, interpreting data, generating appropriate responses, and transmitting that information. It causes and controls all of the body’s functions and voluntary movement. The nervous system is also responsible for memories, perceptions, learning, and behavior. (Farley et al., 2014) (Roca & Serrano, 1996) (Olesky, 2001) (Parker, 1997) (Walker & Wood, 2003). Man has not been able to make a system that is as complex as the human nervous system (Walker & Wood, 2003). It is one large functional unit that encompasses all of the neural tissue in the body. It works together but can be examined in two anatomical parts for study: the central nervous system and the peripheral nervous system (Walker & Wood, 2003). The brain and spinal cord comprise the central nervous system. The peripheral nervous system includes all of the neural tissue outside of the central nervous system (Farley et al., 2014).
